Dr. Ling Li is a Professor in the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and the VFW Endowed Chair in Pharmacotherapy for the Elderly in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota (UMN). Dr. Li also holds joint faculty  appointments in the Neuroscience (GPN) and Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics (MPaT) graduate programs in the Medical School of UMN. The research in Dr. Li’s laboratory centers on deciphering the pathogenic mechanisms connecting Alzheimer’s  disease (AD) and cardiovascular/cerebrovascular disease, with particular emphases on the role of cholesterol/lipids, apolipoproteins (APO), and high-density lipoproteins (HDL) in these disorders and therapeutic implications. Current research interests include the role of systemic and neuro-inflammation in aging, AD and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), as well as the role of mitochondrial lipidomic dynamics and its interaction with APOE4 in pathogenic brain aging and AD and the impact of SARS- CoV-2 infection on cognitive function and risk of AD. Dr. Li’s research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and private foundations. As an educator, Dr. Li is also actively engaged in mentoring predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows and teaching in courses for graduate and professional students.
